During most of the Chinese history, women were treated as property of men and did not have equal rights or status, though some improvement was achieved over time. Under Mao´s, women contribution to society and their potential were recognised. They were encouraged to fully participated in the social, economic and political activities of society. On the other hand, they were willing to leave their households because public facilities such as daycare and canteens were provided to meet their domestic needs. Although, equality of women to met was not fully achieved, given such short time, the accomplishment was rather great.
