HODGKIN’S DISEASE
INTRODUCTION
- HD primarily arise within the lymph nodes and involves the extranodal sites secondarily
- Incidence in bimodal peaks – one in young adults (15 – 35 years) and other peak after 5th decade of life
- More prevalent in young adult males
- Classic diagnostic feature is
presence of Reed-Sternberg (RS) cell
CLINICAL FEATURES
- Painless, movable and firm
lymphadenopathy
- Cervical and mediastinal lymph
nodes involved most frequently
- Splenomegaly and liver
enlargement
- Low-grade fever,
- night sweats
- and weight loss,
- fatigue,
- malaise,
- weakness,
- pruritus
LABORATORY FINDINGS
- Normocytic, normochromic
anaemia
- Serum iron and TIBC are low
- Moderate leukemoid reaction
- Platelet count is normal or
increased
