Psycholsocial
Assisting students in creating a realistic but positive
self-image
To help them understand what a realistic image is of their
own body
and what they can and cannot achieve.
Assist students in building their
self-worth
and understanding their value and
potential
.
To actively support them with their
socialising
skills
Using
role play
to teach them lessons and skills i.e compassion and empathy.
Help educate my
other students
on how they can
work and play
with these children. In this way, they can
better understand
and the children will feel
accepted
.
To have a
positive, inclusive, and supportive attitude
towards
all
my students as my example can contribute immensely.
Use the
external motivation
at first with the hopes that this will become
intrinsic
to students later on.
Mobility
To
allow
my students to
move
and
work
unassissted
.
In order to improve
blood circulation
and assist their kidney function, I would encourage students to
stand
for longer periods instead of sitting.
I would ensure to
accommodate
students by ensuring that they have a
sufficient
amount
of space to move around inside the classroom and can
fit
under their desks - for example in a wheelchair.
I would add a
frame
around the edges of their desks to
avoid
their books
falling
off the sides.
I would ensure that there is an
accessible washing facility
for students to
cleanse
their hands after using their
wheelchairs
.
I would ensure that I am also available to
assist
if students needed help with
standing or sitting
.
Incontinence
I would ensure to
send
them to the
bathroom
more
frequently
.
I understand that they would need
special care
and guidance to
stay as dry
as possible.
I would educate myself in the
special ways
in which students need to
empty their bladders
.
I would educate my students on what
non-verbal
communication is and
how it is used
. This will help them know and understand when their body odours are offensive to others.
To know and understand that
urine
with a
strong or sharp smell
may indicate that a child has an
infection
.
It's important to educate my
other learners
about the situation and how they can best help and
support
these students.
Loss of sensation and pressure sores
I need to ensure to take special care in
preventing pressure sores.
I need to monitor and be conscious of
aids and shoes
that may have become
too small
for students.
I should encourage students to
rise
every
half an hour
- to prevent sores from forming.
If a student presents a
red pressure point
then I should
rub
this area to
increase circulation
.
It is my
responsibility
to
contact the parents
if there is something I am
concerned
about.
Other
I should provide students with s
pecial educational media
so they are able to
participate
as much as possible.
A
reduction
of
written work
may be helpful for the students.
The
availability
of
occupational therapists
is
preferred
and
valued
.
If my students become
easily exhausted
then the program should be
adapted
to include things like
rest periods
.
If and when a student is
absent
, I need to make an
extra effort
to help that child
catch up
the
work
that they have
missed
.
