Reciprocal Altruism: The idea that if we help other people, we expect to be helped in the future should we need it

Social Responsibility Norm: The idea that we are obliged to or should help others who are in need of assistance, without expecting any reward

Guilt: An uncomfortable feeling that we experience when we feel that we are personally responsible for causing harm to another person

Altruistic Personality: displaying other-concern and feeling empathy

Violence: Aggression with the goal of extreme harm

Emotional/Impulsive Aggression: Aggression ignited by strong, impulsive emotions

Physical Aggression: Aggression that causes physical harm

Non-Physical Aggression: causing verbal or social/relational harm

Rae feels guilty for telling her mom that "It's no wonder I went mentally sick when I've got the biggest screwup in the history of screwups for a parent." (S1E1 23:30)
She rates it number 1 out of the top 3 worst things she's ever said to her mom
Afterwards, she starts to feel anxious and repeatedly counts to 10, an anxiety-coping strategy her and Tix talk about in the beginning of the episode

Throughout the season, Rae and her mom argue often, though they truly love each other and their fights are not completely detrimental to their relationship

When Rae goes back to the hospital to tell Tix that she'll be returning (after facing uncertainty in joining the gang and after the swimsuit shopping incident), Tix becomes very angry and grabs a bouquet of flowers from the bathroom. She throws the water from the vase on Rae and hits her with the flowers.
Tix yells at Rae because she is jealous of Rae for having the chance to have a normal life and is angry because she feels her wanting to return is throwing that chance away

Rae's mom is often quirky, but she cares deeply for Rae
After Rae falls out of her window in a botched escape plan to go to Chloe's pool party, Rae's mom picks out splinters from her hand and gives her a pep talk before she heads out
"Are you sure you're alright with going to the pub and things? I do worry about ya, you know" (S1E1 36:30)

Rae's mom tells her to not worry about what other people think about how she looks in a swimsuit
Later on in the conversation, Rae apologizes for insulting her mom

Chloe seems to enjoy gaining social status by using her friendship with and knowledge about Rae against her. (even though they are friends and do actually care a lot about each other)

This happens in episode two when the gang are at the pub and Chloe suggests they talk about their best sexual and romantic experiences. Chop wants to go first (because he initiated the conversation about orgasms), but Chloe insists that Rae go first because she knows Rae (at this point) has no sexual or romantic experience
Rae makes up an excuse to go home, and then feels embarrassed that the gang obviously (or not) knows she is inexperienced

Rae's mom is angry that, in preparation for her date with Archie, Rae has been spreading rumors that her mom is a "sex maniac" (S1E2 19:34) but she is the most angry that Rae has thrown away 35 pounds worth of sweets (as a last-ditch effort to lose weight for Archie)
Her mom yells at her and grounds her
Mrs. Dewhurst tells Rae's mom that she snuck out
Her mom tries to ground her again, but Rae yells back at her and refuses to comply
Her mom tells her she's only trying to make sure she doesn't do too much
"But you know what? Fine. You obviously know better than me. Do what you want" (S1E2 25:27)

Rae had a habit of cutting her legs (which was how she attempted suicide the first time) and worried about what the gang would think of them when she wore a swimsuit at Chloe's pool party
When Izzy and Chloe give Rae a makeover for her second date with Archie, Izzy asks are about the scars. Rae lies and says she got into an accident while she was in France

After Archie stands Rae up for their second date, Rae is mortified. She goes home and burns herself with water

The day after Rae's botched date with Archie, Rae's mom makes her food. They eat together in the kitchen and Rae admits that she deserved to be grounded. Because she expressed her apology, her mom "ungrounds" her

Rae's mom is concerned when Rae gets her period back. She can tell Rae is feeling unwell and asks her whether she should let Kester know (she is worried that she is depressed again- makes a comment that her and Karim barely saw her the day before)
Her mom then encourages Rae to go see Dr. Nick about her heavy period

Rae supports Chloe throughout her (short) pregnancy journey. She stays with Chloe and misses the music festival to be with her as she goes through her abortion at home, even though they were not on good terms before Chloe's pregnancy

Finn punches Big G of the Green Lane Gang after they start making fun of Rae for having a period stain on the back of her skirt
This causes Rae to really fall for Finn. This makes her see him as sweet AND good looking, rather than stubborn and good looking

Finn shows empathy by standing up for Rae in front of the Green Lane Gang when they start to make fun of her

Rae is altruistic, especially to those she loves. She can't stand to hurt the people she loves and be on bad term with them for long.

Rae supports Chloe during her abortion even though they have a complicated friendship

Rae and her mom fight often but always reconcile. They both love each other too much to let anything permanently damage their relationship

Rae also cares deeply for Tix, and knows that Tix is struggling more than she is. Rae and Tix are so close that Rae is one of (seems to actually be the only one) that Tix will let touch her. They understand each other on a deeper level than any of Rae's other friends because they understand each others' struggles with mental health

Rae starts to feel that she had gotten Finn all wrong

Rae's mom has been sending her forged postcards from her dad to make her feel loved by him. Though Rae feels betrayed when she first finds out the postcards are fake, she later appreciates the fact that her mom did it out of love

When Rae's mom and Karim leave the country for Tunisia (in an attempt to escape immigration and avoid Karim being arrested), Rae's mom says that maybe she shouldn't go, because Rae attempted suicide the last time she was left on her own. Rae assures her mom that things are different now, and that she'll be fine
Her mom tells her to go to the hospital if she doesn't feel well

Chloe hurts Rae by leaving her just before they're about to talk about her hospitalization
In episode 4, Chloe brings Rae a bracelet as an apology (S1E4 11:10)
Chloe tells Rae she doesn't want to talk about her boyfriend, and assures Rae that there's no pressure for her to tell her what happened

Rae's mom doesn't want her to go to the rave because she doesn't feel that she's ready

Rae's mom buys her the dress she wanted for her mom's wedding as a sort of apology after their fight when Rae opens the cage and lets the birds out

Rae and her mom make up at the end of the season at her mom's wedding reception
Her mom says she's upset because "my best friend never came to my wedding" (S1E6 38:10)
