QUADRATIC FUNCTIONS
Basic shape of the graph
Parabola
Standard form/Coefficients
Standard form: ax2 + bx + c = 0
The coefficient are a, b, and c
a represents the orientation of the parabola
c represents the y-intercept
Domain/Range
Domain: Set of possible input values (shown on the x-axis)
Range: Set of possible output values (shown on the y-axis)
Vertex/Axis of symmetry
This is the highest or lowest point on the graph
The vertical line that goes through the vertex point and works much like a 'mirror' of the parabola
Roots
The roots are the x-intercepts. If the vertex of the parabola is at (x, 0), it will have only one root
Solving quadratic equations
To solve a quadratic equation, you need to use the quadratic formula:
Steps to graph a quadratic function
Determine the vertex point and plot it
Graph the axis of symmetry
Find y-intercept
Using the axis of symmetry, find another point with the same y-value as the y-intercept
Connect all points to form the parabola
