Your academic service to advance equitable access to higher education for women, racial minorities and individuals from other groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education
Because of the way I was brought up I appreciate my privilidge and realized that it's my job to help others of marginalised communities, who never got the opportunities that I was given.
Immediately after college I volunteered my to teach at Nalanda Academy Wardha. I held introductory classes to programming for underprivilidged students facing caste based discrimination.
Thanks to Mr Anoop Kumar I was able to connect to the students really well. I quickly realised that the problem the sudents faced was a lack of consistensy of teachers.
In the short amount of time I had I wouldn't be able to make them self sufficient, and able to pursue a career in computer science.
So instead of arbitrarily teaching them, I worked with them to curate courses and teach them about the various avenues they could pursue within computer science.
Then I seet up a channel through which they could communicate with me by email. So I could guide them as they progressed
As many students were interested in pursuing a higher education, I conducted seminars on how to approach the GRE exam as well.
As this was really helpful I went on to conduct a GRE seminar for the GEN (Global Empower Network) which was attended by over 90 students.

Introduction
I am a dalit
What is a dalit?
Dalits also known as untouchables, are the lowest members of the caste system
-
Dalits have faced dehumanization and humiliation for centuries for practices like untouchability where dalits are said to be "polluted" and members of other casts aren't allowed to touch dalits, items that dalits touch or even their shadows. They faced barbaric practices like the breast tax which was imposed on wonem who wanted to cover their upper bodies.
how it continues today
-
India has a long way to go before the dalit community catches up to the more privilidged sections of society.
