Slavery
European trader bought black slaves from Africa
They worked really hard for nothing
They were not treated well
The US had spliced thoughts of the slavery
North wanted to stop it
South wanted it to keep going
Alomst every black American was a slave
Began in early 1600s
Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in 1963
Civil Rights Movement
Early 1900s black people began to protest against the Jim Craw laws
The movement grew in the era of 1950
Very important movement, made sure of rights to black Americans
Several major events happened 50-60
1964 the rights for black people was signed into a law by the president
Jim Craw Laws
Laws that kept sure blacks and white were segregated
Black could not use same bathrooms, restaurants and schools as white
Discrimination on a high level
These laws came after the civil war
The southern states wanted the segregation to keep going
Voting rights act
1965
Black people could finally vote
Voting rights could no longer be based on skin color
Civil war
Started because of the disagreement of slavery
South against north
The north won
Led to new rules of slavery
