Leaders need to provide a clear vision for the future to ct as a goal, driver and motivator for change
Strategic leaders need to be able to envision a future and provide a vision that everyone within the organisation can buy into
They must also create dissatisfaction with the status quo if they are to persuade stakeholders of the change needed
The vision provides the route map, the plan for the change process and implementation, it offers a glimpse of the new tomorrow
This Is the role of senior managers, it helps to inform the actions of change agents elsewhere in the organisation and prevents confusion, highlighting the importance of vision in ensuring clarity
While senior managers may be the initiators and symbolic leaders of top-down strategic change, it will be middle management who are the implementers as they act as the conduit of senior managers visions
Middle managers play an important role as intermediaries in the change process, they have to make sense of the strategy as they implement it - they must understand relate to the vision
Middle managers bridge the gap between the broad visions of strategic change offered by senior managers and the operational understanding of lower needs
As the change process unfolds it will be middle managers, with their relationship with customers and suppliers and intimate knowledge of the workers in their area who have to adjust and reinterpret the change implementation

Given that the change champion, sponsor or initiator is likely to be a senior manager with limited time, they will often create a change team that will be given different responsibilities to help bring about the desired transformation
Any person seeking to promote, further, support, sponsor, initiate, implement or help to deliver change within the organisation

Can be managers but also non managers, they can be people new to the organisation, established employees or even consultants
Whatever their background, they will need to be Abel to handle complex situations with sensitivity
The role is political and the change agent will need to be able to influence and draw together coalitions to ensure change is implemented
