Behavioural responses to stress are evoked from underlying complex physiological changes that arise consequently from stress.

GAS MODEL
Stages In GAS
Resistance
- Activates various biochemical, psychological and behavioral mechanism to overcome or remove the source of stress
- The body reduces the immune system during this stage
- People tend to catch a cold or some other illness when they experience prolonged stress
Exhaustion
- People have a limited resistance capacity, then if they were pushed so much they can move into exhaustion stage
- Increase long term physical and phycological damage
- For example:
The process of emotional exhaustion
Reduced feelings of personal accomplishment
Alarm Reaction
- When a threat or challenges actives physiological stress response
- The energy level and coping effectiveness decrease in response to the initial shock
Hans Selye found that people have fairly consistence and automatic physiological response to stressful situations which helps them cope with environmental demands.
