-
Chromatography - separates the components based on the tendency of each to ravel or be drawn across the surface of another material.

Atoms
Law of conservation of mass - during a chemical reaction the mass of the reactants will equal the mass of the product.
Law of definite proportions - a compound always has the same elements in the same proportions by mass.
Law of multiple proportions - the same two elements can be in a compound, but they must combine in different ratios which are simple whole numbers.
Radiation
Beta particles- stopped by a layer of clothing, charged electrons from the nucleus, low energy.
Gamma particles - stopped by concrete or lead, a photon, can go through the body.
Alpha particles- stopped by paper, two protons and two neutrons, very large on atomic scale.
Elements
Metals - shiny, solid at room temp, conducts electricity, malleable, ductile, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, tradition metals.
Nonmetals- gases or dull looking solids, bad conductors.

Naming acids
-
2 anion ends in ate, change to ic
3 anion ends in ite, change ending to ous

Acids and Bases
-
Oxy acid- contains H, O, and one other element
Naming Covalent bonds
write name of the first element, add prefix if more than one (mono)
Write second element, add prefix and change ending to ide.
