Plan of Action for EPQ task
Title: " To what extent was the Somme the biggest military disaster in WW1"
Time Period: WW1
Talk about the events- once going into depth about an event at the Somme, I will then link back to the question and give an evaluation on why it was a disaster
How am I going to apply my notes:
Currently, I have been taking brief notes about the background of the Somme- once I get into the proper planning and note-taking stage I will be mainly using a method called the Cornell Method- I have used this before and it allows me to properly digest and understand the information that is being given to me.
How am I going to piece together information?
Usually when I write essays I just go with the flow (obviously with planning). however with the EPQ I am going to do it in a far more structured way.
For the essay, I'm going to make a step by step plan for each paragraph, then I will spend X amount of time researching for the paragraph. After the research I will right that paragraph out. Then begin researching the next paragraph
This will allow me to prevent repetition and go fully into depth per paragraph
How to make my essay different:
I am going to be finding then using some first hand accounts of the Somme and integrating them into my essay as evidence of the disaster
Goals and Targets- SMART targets
Targets: I want to have some great and in depth notes on the Somme by exeat
I also want to know what happened at the Somme inside out
I also want to have read both the books I have listed in my log by the end of Christmas
How am I going to write the Essay
Main Essay: One paragraph talking about a reason why the Somme was a military disaster e.g. the lives that were lost- the paragraph after that I would compare to ` different military disaster in WW1
Conclusion: Give an overall evaluation of the essay, contrast different points, then give my judgement at the end
Intro: Background information on WW1, outline when the Somme was and the lives that were lost
After two paragraphs I will give a short evaluation on the two comparisons and why one might be considered a better arguement
