Billie Holiday had a difficult childhood as her mother had transportation jobs, she often skipped school which had led her to go to juvenile court when she was 9 years old and ended up in the house of the Good Shepard. She dropped out of school at the age of 11, had an attempted rape which resulted in her going back to the house of the Good Shepard, and by 1929 she moved to Harlem with her mother where she became a prostitute not even by the age of 14. Billie Holiday was an American jazz singer, songwriter, and actress. She had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing, her performances made her recognizable throughout her career and her improvisation made up for the lack of musical education.
