When the glucose is too high in our body the pancreas releases insulin to change the glucose into glycogen to store in the liver for later which lowers blood concentration. However when blood glucose conc too low then glucagon hormone released travels through blood to liver changed glycogen to glucose
What happens to uterus lining if the egg is fertilised
it is maintained so the embryo can get nutrients from the blood supply
increasing bodymass leads to overweight/obesity so the body doesnt respond to insulin
stages of menstrual cycle
on day 1 of the menstrual cycle the uterus lining sheds which is called a period. on day 7 oestrogen is released from ovaries which thickens the uterus lining again. On day 4 egg is released and progesterone is released from empty follicle in the ovaries. This maintains uterus lining to get ready for fertilised egg. unless no fertilized egg day 28, drop in oestrogen triggers drop in progesterone leads to another period
one disasdvantage od treating infertility using hormones to stimulate ovulation
It can cause multiple eggs to be released and then fertilised which leads to multiple pregnancies which can be dangerous
explain how changes in the level of hormones results in ovulation
Fsh rises which stimulates oestrogen to rise. As oestrogen levels get high, LH is released which makes ovulation happen
% of co2 in atmosphere decreased because of photosynthesis
test to show that carbon dioxide is present
lime water goes cloudy
co2 reflects heat back to the earth to keep it warm
advantages and disad of using hydrogen instead of diesel as a fuel for buses
hydrogen only produces water as a waste , diesel undergoes incomplete combustion, makes soot, carbon monoxide is toxic, more renewable, hydrogen gas has to be manufactured, hard to store, strong tanks, expensive
Kerosene has a low viscocity so it can flow easily and its also quite flammable so can be used to fuel aircraft
complete combustion produces co2 and water
incomplete combustion produces carbon monoxide and soot
carbon monocide binds with haemoglobin and prevents oxygen binding could lead to death
water vapour condesnced
The earphs early atmosphere is thought to be formed by gases from volcanos
alkanes have the same general formula and chemical properties
cracking process used to break down long chain molecules into shorter ones which are in more demand
petrol and bitumin have evry different properties, firstly bitumin has a higher BP than petrol so it need shigher temp to be obtained, Bitumen ha slarger hydrocarbon molecules which are in more demand, bitumin is very viscous good for roads, Petrol used as fuel for cars sets on fire easier and quicker, smaller chains
complete - blue flame on bunsen burner
when fuels are burned in vechiles and engines high temperatures are reached, at these high temps nitrogen and oxygen combine in air to form nitrogen dioxide
alkene unsaturated hydrocarbon so more than one bond
nitrogen and oxygen are the main two gases in the atmospgere
