Jean-Paul Akayesu member of MDR and mayor of taba commune, was prosecuted
quickl becoming the first man to be convicted on rape as crime against humanity and was sentenced to life
accused on terms of inciting massacre and ordering road blocks to road up tutsi
he stood trial on 15 accounts of genocide
first to plead guilty on the charge of genocide and was given life
later in the year prime minister Jean Kambanda was prosecuted
pauline Nyiramusuhuko was the former minister of women affairs
first woman to be convicted of genocide
ferdinand Nahimana owner and hassan Ngeze editor of RTLM hate radio
both charged with Genocide, incitement to genocide, and crimes against humanity. given life
sentence were however reduced to 30 and 35 years respectively
however small the amount on paper, reality was it would be impossible to prosecute all of those at fault
