ORGANIZING
WHAT IS ORGANIZING?
The process of determining the tasks to be done, who will do them and how those tasks will be managed and coordinated.

THE ORGANIZING PROCESS:
- Alligning with company's mission & vision.
- Determining task, duties & responsiblities
- Grouping into logical units & sub-units

DIVISION OF WORK / LABOR
The work has to be divided among the members so that individuals are responsible for a limited set of jobs instead doing the task as a whole.
ADVANTAGES:
- Creates job specialization
- Increase productivity
DISADVANTAGES:
- Higher degree of control.
- Boredom
WHAT IS ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE?
- Shows the flow of interactions within the organization and reporting structure.

SPAN OF MANAGEMENT
- A number of subordinates (employees) who report directly to given manager or supervisor.
- Also called 'span of control'
MAJOR FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE SPAN OF MANAGEMENT.
- Type of work
- Strength of the organization structure.
- Ability of the manager.
- Amount & type of communication required among the members.
CHAIN OF COMMAND
- Separate lines of authority / power among all position in an organization.
- It has 2 components:-
i. Unity of Command
ii. Scalar Relationship
*DELEGATION
The process transforming the responsibility for a specific activity or task to another member of the organization.
STEP IN DELEGATION
- Decide which goals or task to delegate.
- Make assignments.
- Grant authority
- Hold responsible/accountable
- Monitor
BARRIERS OF DELEGATION
- Manager may refrain to delegate because they are insecure about their value to the organization.
- Lack confidence in the abilities of their subordinates.
- Experience dual accountability.
- Subordinate are reluctant to accept delegation.
OVERCOMING BARRIERS TO THE DELEGATION
- Allow subordinates to develop their own solution & to make mistake.
- More support & training.
- Improved communication.
COORDINATION
The process of linking or integrate the activities of the various departments of the organization.
