Korean War (1950-1953)
The major players in the Vietnam War for South Korea was the president, Syngman Rhee. And for North Korea, the prime minister, Kim Il-sung and chief commander, Choi Yong-kun.
The Korean War took place in Korea. But more specifically, Korea was divided into North and South Korea and a lot of the fighting and killing accorded on the border between the two countries.
The Korean War has many causes but the major overview of why it started is because of the values they believed in. North Korea and South Korea wanted to be reunified but they couldn't agree on the terms of who would be in charge and how they would run their country together. Then, other countries got involved, China got involved on North Korea's side and the United States got involved on South Korea's side. One reason that the U.S. got involved is because they did not believe in communism and if North Korea won then that would mean the spread of communism which is not what the U.S. wanted at all.
The Korean war killed about 2.5 million people and lasted about 3 years. This war was disastrous for families and the economy. The war took place in Korea but the people of Korean did not have a lot of control. But, they got all the repercussions of the war. For example, their economy went down and prices of things went up. When the war was over Korea was still divided and families were split up because you couldn't interact with people over the line and it is still like that today.
The outcome for the Korean War wasn't what either side wanted. There was no true winner because the sides are still divided to this day and North Korea is still a communist country.
Causes of Korean War
- Egoism- I think that egoism is the first cause of the Korean War because there were two leaders that wanted to unify but they could never agree who would lead or how they would run the country. Their egos got in the way and they couldn't see the other sides point of view. This started the entire fight which then lead to the war. Without the egos of the two leaders, I think they could've prevented the war itself.
- Statism- I think statism is the second most important cause of the Korean War because statism is a political system in which the state has substantial centralized control over social and economic affairs. The big battle in the Korean War is that North Korea was a communist country and South Korea did not want communism. Communism is similar to statism because there is less freedom and it is more derived around the government having control and statism is when the government forces something on people. And South Korea did not want communism because they would lose freedom in their economic dealings and way of life. So North Korea was more towards statism and South Korea wanted nothing to do with statism.
- Individualism- South Korea was more of a free country, kind of like the United States. They believed in independent thought and action which is individualism. While South Korea was a communist country that was more strict and was centralized around government and not as centralized around free actions and thought. So another big issue is that South and North Korea were fighting over the way they woud lead. South Korea wanted more individualism and freedom and North Korea wanted less individualism and more government which lead to war.
- Evasion- The United States joined the Vietnam War because they had the fear that communism was a seed and that if North Korea was a communist country then communism would spread and then it couldn't be controlled. And the U.S. refused to look at the relevant facts. They didn't realize that if North Korea is communist that doesn't necessarily mean that every country is going to become communist. They didn't think realistically and look at the facts which is exactly what evasion is. This caused war because they fought on the fear of the spread of communism and if they would have looked at the relevant and realistic facts then they probably wouldn't have been involved in any war which would make the war a lot smaller.

My Definition of War: War is a battle between two opponents that incorporates other people and is emotionally and physically draining.
This is a good definition of war because war is a very broad topic that needs a broad definition to fit all the branches of war. War can be on a small scale or a very large scale and my definition fits both of those by staying very broad. My definition fits the broad topic of war but also provides the more specific explanation, like that it is emotionally and physically draining. So it has that good mix of being broad but having some specific details in there too.
I think that my definition could use some improvements though. For example, I think that my definition says that a battle is between two opponents but there are lots of wars when there are more than 2 opponents. I do think that majority of wars have two sides competing but sometimes there are wars that have a 3rd or even 4th opponent.
