Impacts of Global Warming
Economic
Natural Disasters
Water which is 27 and a above which means that they can only form at the equator right now. If the water temperature around the world increases that leads to a higher amount of hurricanes in general
Severely damaging Hurricanes in america:
Catrina 2005 --> around 250 billion US Dollars of total damages Hurricane Ike 2008 --> 29.5 billion Dollars
Hurricane Sandy 2012 (I experienced aftermath of it myself --> severe flooding in Chicago after east coast was hit with the hurricane itself.) --> around 71.4 billion $ damages
Hurricane Harvey in 2017 about 125 $ billion in damages
Natural disasters have already caused 23 million working life years since 2000
The World Employment and Social Outlook 2018 suggested that climate change would destroy 1.3 billion jobs. It would cause a reccesion of 30% by 2100 from 2010 which would be more severe than the great depression.
Agriculture
severe droughts or weather pattern changes would affect agriculture as crops are destroyed. Also transportation of these crops would become more difficult through weather changes
Ocean warming has led to a 4% global decline in sustainable catches, the greatest amount of fish that can be caught without depleting stocks long-term, according to a study published Thursday in the Science Journal
Warmer temerpature which leads to longer growth periods which leads to more profit
However this will mean more Carbon emmisions which will have a negative impact on the Environment
Weather affect on Economy
Demand for cold weather products will decrease (which is a negative side but also positive)
Demand for warm weather products will increase (sunbeds, Sun Umbrellas
Environmental
Habitats are took over by invasive species
Pine Beetle --> killed by cold winders but now they arent long and cold enough and therefore the forests are in a tricks sitaution as they will slowly die.
More floods but also more droughts
Increaes percipitation and relocates it Lake chad which has dried up over the last few decades --> was a freshwater source of the inhabitants
Soil evaporation increases chance of severe droughts
Temperature is high --> more evapotranspiration
leads to more natural disasters in the equator region
Ice Caps
40 % of decrease in 40 years of ice caps
If the ice caps melt then there will be a negative feedback loop. If all of greenland melted then the warm water traveling to europe it could cause an ice age in europe
Once the ice caps are melted there is an open ocean which is a dark surface which means that there is a faster build up of heat in the arctic ocean.
1 Degree increase at the equator
is a 12 Degree increase in the north pole
Obviously that would be a bad impact as the ice caps will melt and that would increase global temperature --> feedback loop
Ocean Conveyor
At the end of the last Ice age Giant pool of freshwater in north America
Ice Dam of the eastern Border
All of the freshwater came into the salty dense salt water of the pacific ocean
Europe went back into the ice age as these currents stopped giving warm ocean to Europe
Current levels are at 370 parts per million volume, up from 280 ppmv 100 years ago. Emissions have increased 4 percent since 1990. But 2015 levels dropped slightly from the prior year. Power plants began switching from coal to natural gas and a warmer winter reduced demand for heating oil.
By 2100, global climate change will modify plant communities covering almost half of Earth's land surface and will drive the conversion of nearly 40 percent of land-based ecosystems from one major ecological community type
Social
"Hurricane Catrina" Public thought that they were prepared enough, therefore more people died
Oil which is produced in protected areas in alaska --> trucks go over frozen ground
35 years ago 225 years until the glaciers would be too thin to drive on.
now it is below 75 years which means that the temperature keeps on going up and therefore it is difficult to transport over it
who doesnt want to live in a better environment, but people dont want to change
as the high cost
This can have an affect on their jobs,
residence, and society
Diseases
Mosquitos
Malaria mosquitos need 5 consecutave nights below 18 degrees. Nairobi was built above the line with this degrees but as now as the
Pressure of Global warming
changes and size of population distribution as people will have to move to be safe from environmental dangers (Hurricanes are more likely in certain areas and therefore inhabiting that area would be unwise)
Health
directly through changing weather patterns, or indirectly through changes in water, air, food, ecosystems, livelihoods and infrastructure.
Health can also be affected through diseases which are more prone to develop in the warmer temperatures. For example diseases spread over insects, which like the warm, would be more frequently seen.
Longer Summers
Longer growing seasons in some areas --> for some it will be good but hot places will become warmer that means rise in tourism in some areas and therefore jobs will be available and potential income
Jobs will be created to fight global warming --> about 24 million new jobs, but 1.3 billion are taken away by 2030 (published by The World empowerment + Outlook 2019)
Connections
Connections between all three sectors can be clearly identified as an affect in one area is at one point going to affect the others. Just to name a few, an increasing number of hurricanes in the environmental factor, is going to impact economic stability, while also forcing people to leave areas of high amounts of natural disasters. Additionally the rise of temperature on the glaciers changes weather types which suggests potential economic growth aswell as downfall. Growth as products can be specifically made to help warmer temperatures, while the increased heat means lower demand for thick jackets and wool in general.
Connections are important so that the world sees that the effect of warmer temperatures will not only affect a small portion of the world. It will affect everyone to an extent.
