Signs and Symptoms
can be asymptomatic
fever
poor appetite
malaise
sore throat
blisters red spots on tongue, mouth, cheeks 1-2 days post fever.
sometimes ulcerated
a non-itchy skin rash after 1-2 days.flat red spots on palms of hands and soles of feet, sometimes on buttocks and genitalia.
sometimes just rash or just spots
Differential diagnosis
Herpes
Stomatitis Aphthous
Ulcers
Erythema Multiforme/Stevens–Johnson syndrome
Viral pharyngitis.
Kawasaki disease
Transmission
Direct contact-virus found in nose & throat secretions, saliva, blister fluids and stool.
Most contagious during 1st week of contact, Incubation 3-7 days
Virus survives for weeks even though patient is well
Virus spread by people with unwashed hands and contaminated surfaces.
Treatment
No specific treatment
Symptom relief only
Simple analgesia if needed
Mouth wash or numbing spray
