setting is important in the way the characters behaviours and actions are presented in the text

No scene takes place outside - demonstrates the closed beliefs of the characters in the play

Stories are semi-autobiographical, therefore are mostly accurate representations of Adichie's personal context

Setting in Jumping Monkey Hill = environment for thoughts and actions to foster, the camp in itself represents the idea of being told what is the right culture and how to represent your culture through written world

Setting in The thing around your neck = showcases the downfalls of American society and the experience of migrating there with your expectations set too high.
