Esteem, self-respect and the acknowledgement of others comes next; at work, this is met through status, job-title and appraisal feedback. The final need in Maslow’s model is the need for growth and advancement. Self- actualisation is the need for personal fulfilment, to develop potential, to become everything that one is capable of becoming. This is a need that can be directly achieved at work and will include career progression, achievement of goals and opportunities for creativity. It should be noted, however, that not all employees feel a need to self-actualise at work and may seek other avenues to fulfil this need external to the workplace.
