Assessments needed
Lung function tests- to measure the amount of air you can inhale and exhale and whether the lungs deliver enough oxygen to the blood Use if a spirometer
Chest x-ray- this will show if there is any emphysema while also ruling out any other lung or heart problems
CT scan- help to detect emphysema and it will help determine if surgery would be beneficial, a CT also screens for lung cancer
Arterial blood gas analysis- this shows how well the lungs are bringing oxygen into the blood and removing carbon dioxide
Possible medications
Bronchodilators-relax the muscles around the airway, help to reduce coughing and shortness of breath making breathing easier. Examples are Albuterol, Ipratropium, and Levalbuterol

Treatments
Quit all smoking- it will help the disease from getting any worse and it will help to prevent your breathing from getting worse

COPD can also be caused by air pollutants such as chemicals, fumes and dust in the workplace for an extended period of time
