The first is an entrepreneurial role where the manager seeks opportunities and is a change maker in their area of responsbility

When the unexpected does happen, managers are responsible for intiating corrective action

They use their authority to decide where the organisation will commit its resources and monitor their implementation
The manager is also a negotiator and may be needed to take part in and direct important negations within their team, department or organisation
They may represent the organisation in negotiations with trade unions, suppliers, business partners and a wide range of stakeholders

Interpersonal roles
Managers must work, interact and communication with people on their immediate team, in other parts of or external to the organisation

In addition to directing goals and evaluating employee performance, they mentor, train, develop, engage and motivate employees
Figurehead, Leader, Liaison
Informational roles
Managers have the task of obtaining and transmitting information for the management of the organisation

Managers disseminate information through their liaison role, acting as a conduit to transmit information across the organisation and influence the attitudes and behaviour of employees
As a spokesperson, they use the information to positively influence the way people inside and out of the organisation respond to it

Refer to the set of behaviours or tasks that a manager is expected to perform because of the position that he or she holds within a group or organisation
