Agriculture
One of the greatest peculiarities developed in the agricultural field was the crops in the chinampas or rafts. These were true floating islands in the great Mexican lake, made with reeds, branches and mud. Through the chinampas or rafts, the Aztecs managed to gain space from the lake, achieve high yields in their crops and avoid the depletion of the soils. The basic crops of the Aztecs were corn, beans, squash, chili, cotton, cocoa and tomato.
