Women’s Education
Mary Lyon - In 1837, she started the first institution of higher education for women, Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in Massachusetts.
Elizabeth Blackwell - In 1849, she became the first woman to earn a medical degree. In 1857, she founded the New York Infirmary, which was run by women entirely.
Emma Willard - In Vermont, 1814, she founded a girls’ school. It covered academic subjects like history, math, and literature, along with the usual subjects for young women.
