Understanding Emptiness & Interdependence
"Emptiness and Interdependence are the key to realizing real-world benefits" (Karmapa)
Emptiness is a complex set of circumstances that are always changing
everyone and everything are "empty" and able to do anything
emptiness and nothingness are not the same
there is potential in emptiness
emptiness can be compared to zero
zero is the basis for counting and computers and they cannot function without it
emptiness it the basis for growth
we can make anything happen but only by bringing together the necessary conditions (Karmapa)
everything is dependent on others
Buddah describes interdependence as a state of profound connectedness (Karmapa)
nature of reality
Everyone is linked and everyone affects each other
we are responsible for eachother
almost everything we have comes from somewhere else
The Insight of Interbeing
Lewis Thomas describes human bodies as "shared, rented and occupied"
humans are made of cells that help us move and live
the world is made of humans that are the "cells" that make it work
everything depends on everything else to be able to work and function the way it should
emptiness and interbeing can be seen in our heritage and appearances
our immediate family members can be seen in the way we act and look
children are the continuation of their parents
