Justification: we chose this topic because it is suitable for a B1 level and, even though it may be challenging, students would be interested in the news as they are adolescents or adults
Characteristics: this topic is linked to the real world, so they will be able to use everyday (and real) English. Furthermore, it is open-ended and involves critical thinking
- Being able to discuss with people from other groups
- Presenting their podcast to the class (and having to be recorded)
- Reading news in English

Specific terminology: not a lot, just some words
Language activities to be practised: reading (understanding), summarizing, writing, speaking, discussing
General academic language: the students have to read news that might include academic language, but they are expected to present their podcast in an informal way
Grammar forms and language items: focus on past tenses, reported speech and the passive voice, vocabulary...
Interactional strategies:
- Working in groups (teamwork) to choose the information, summarize, write de script and present the ideas
- Listening to the other groups' podcasts
- Discussing with the others about the different topics
