The development of our camera usage from the beginning of the course to producing our short film is very clear. In our prelim task it showed, our camera was off centre, it lacked continuity and it did not portray the scene as much as we would of hoped.
When shooting our film and other film pieces we needed to ensure that you look at the bigger picture. Lots of shots have to be taken whether or not they might be useful. It is difficult to see how your film might pan out when shooting so controlling the camera shots and videos taken is vital.
To select the certain types of shots you want to take and use you have to understand the main feel of your film. For example if you want to show shock and fear you may choose to use a lot of close ups to relay this to the audience, however as we chose to do a family friendly film we decided to ensure to take all different shots from different distances to see what would fit best.
Continuity is also extremely key for us making a short film so to ensure we gained this continuity we got the shots we needed to carry on from and had them on a separate device.
This allowed me to set up the camera and tripod in the exact position it was in before. Due to the fact our film is about flashbacks of his younger life, it did not matter if a branch or leaves were out of place due to the fact of course a forest is going to change throughout years of people’s lives.
We used a variety of shots including: 1. Long Wide Shots 2. Close up shots 3. Over the shoulder shots 4.
To ensure the film pan's out in the best way possible as many shots should be taken as they can be from different angles and distances including adding or taking away lenses where possible.
We used specific transitions and effects to create meanings of flashbacks. We ensured that it was clear to the audience as it faded in and out of different shades of colour. This created the idea of nostalgia, the younger days were in lighter tones and the current days were in a darker effect. This then meant that it was clear to our audiences what it was meaning.
The tone of our short film was set with our backing music, the non-diegetic music was fairly romantic and elicits feelings throughout. The orchestra is soft and helps project the feelings in the short film.
The credits that we used throughout our short film were put forward to create a realistic and professional feel.
We used a 3D main font, in white with a black shaddow for the production company and the name of our film.
For the name credits we used a glowing white stick font that appeared on the screen and would disappear off the screen in a certain direction to create a aesthetically pleasing affect.
The Credit fonts we used we wanted them to be appealing and easy to read in the quick period they are shown on the screen for.
This makes it clear to the audience and avoids any difficulty or confusion when trying to read the names of the certain actors or producers that worked on putting the short film together.
