assign less work = ] and provide more time for students to work on tasks in class rather than outside of class
Less is more. Choose quality over quantity.
Labs
Minimize the amount of materials needed to complete each lab -- try to encapsulate everything into a single google form
Extend lab time to 2 weeks instead of one
Homework
No unnecessary hw.
Give students a list of choices, have them decide what is the most beneficial.
give students ample practice but let them know which assignments will be counted
Do flipped class so you have a lot of practice in class
Classwork
Have students work on group handouts so they don't have to complete the entire sheet by themselves
I am trying to remind them that
In some sense I feel like given the circumstances we can remind them that their education is still largely their responsibility and they can do as much or as little as they see fit. consequences will ensue of course
Handouts or practice problems that were originally done in person during workshop activities or similar can be modified to be a menu e.g. "with remaining 15 minutes of class, complete any 3 of the 8 questions posted." Additional questions can be for practice at student's choosing.
Create a rubric for grading an assignment each week. Students can read the rubric and understand which one they are being graded for.
Give students mandatory and optional assignments each week. For students who want extra practice, they have it. You don't have to grade all of it. -Shaniece
Have some time during class for EdPuzzles rather than having them done after class is over.
maybe we could do away with the Ed Puzzle Category in Chemistry and distribute the percentage over Home Work and Quiz
Tell students which ones are graded and which ones are just for extra practice.
Announce on GC to help clarify which assignments are completed versus extra assignments for practice
Assignments that can be completed during the 4o minute periodand would not take more than 20 minutes after class time. Quality over quantity
Do not assign work due on weekends at post assignments on weekends.
