STEPS
:
a. select the jobs to be analyzed
b. develop a preliminary list of tasks to be analyzed
c. validate the list of tasks with SMEs
d. after the most important tasks have been identified, identify the most important KSAOs
DEVELOPING A COMPETENCY MODEL
i. identify business strategy and goals
ii. identify jobs, positions or job families
iii. conduct interview and focus groups with top performers
iv. develop competencies and the competency model
v. validate and review the model
WHY IS NEEDS ASSESSMENT IMPORTANT
training may be incorrectly used as a solution to a performance problem
program may have the wrong content, objectives or methods
trainee may be sent to programs for which they dont have basic skills
training will not deliver the expected results
Money would be invested on a training programe that is wasteful
