How Covid-19 has affected the Educational Assistant Job :
Health Wise
Students and Staff are more susceptible to the virus
EAs work more closely with the students and even with PPE can still contract the virus
EAs are already at a higher risk of biological hazards with toileting and cleaning up students, Corona will not be an exception
Socially
EAs, like everyone else will have to adhere to COVID guidelines, and that can ruin morale as they wont be able to the things they were able to do in their free time.
The groups that EAs work will will also be more affected, due to mental and physical disabilities
A lot of students and teachers will need to socially distance, therefore any contact with the EA from a student during school can be dangerous, especially if the child can't or won't wear PPE
Emotionally
Being an EA can already be emotionally challenging, but children getting sick and losing time with the EA can be hard, as EAs connect with their students.
The stress of COVID can creating mental health and other health problems for the EA, making it more and more difficult for them to do their job.
If the EA is used to working with the children in-person and then is made to work with them online and is in isolation, that can negatively affect the EA mentally.
Professionally
The job overall has changed, but also so will the hiring process.
public funding will decrease therefore creating less jobs for EAs
Helping students online will be a lot harder
Future
School has changed so much with PPE and social distancing regulations.
EAs may have to work from home indefinitely, or some of their job.
PPE may be implemented for the next little while
Home Life
Children can and will develop anxiety due to covid, creating larger barriers for EAs to try and assist children
EAs will have to keep themselves safer outside of work, to prevent them losing time at work, therefore not being able to actually assist the children
EAs may be laid off, therefore creating financial struggles
School Life
Students are currently doing a lot if not all of their work online, which can be difficult when the EA job is mostly in-person work
PPE is mandatory, EAs may now need to use other methods of teaching due to the PPE.
EA jobs may become obsolete with students having access to parents during school.
