tiny mites called sarcopes scabiei set up shop in the outer layers of the human skin. the skin does not take kindly to the invasion. as the mites burrow and lay eggs inside the skin, the infestation leads to relentless itching and angry rash.
pathophysiology
the symptoms are caused by allergic reaction of the host's body to mite proteins not exactly known. the mite proteins are also delayed (cell mediated) & immediate (antibody mediated) type, and involves IgE presumed o mediate the very rapid symptoms on the infection. the allergy-symptoms continue for somedays, and even several weeks, after all mites are killed. new lesions may appear for few days after mites are eridicated.
causes
scabies is caused by tiny mites that burrow into your skin. intense itching occurs in the area where mites burrows. the urge to scratch may be especially strong at night.
