Superficial fungal infection of the beard
Pathophysiology
Caused by Dermatophytes
That are responsible for superficial fungal infections
They infect the stratum corneum
Of the epidermis, hair and nails
Enzymes like keratenases
Released by Dermatophytes
Which help them invade the epidermis
Hair and hair follicles are invaded by fungi
Producing inflamatory response
Dermatophytes are usually from zoolific animals
Treatment
Shaving with warm compresses of crust removal
Antifungal compounds like loshion, shampoo &cream

Griseofuluim
Terbinafine
Itraconazole
Ketoconazole
Causes
T. Verrucosum( from cattle)
T. Mentagrophytes var. Equinum (from horses)
Clinical manifestations
Red and lumpy skin
Swelling and redness around beard
Hair easily removed
Pimple or blister
Solitory plaques or nodules
Crusting around hair
Abscesses

Stop shaving the affected area until initiated on treatment
Use a new disposable razor everytime
Have your pets and farm animals evaluated
To make sure they don't have Dermatophytes
Avoid sharing of combs, brushes and hats

Change linen daily
Use antifungal shampoos
