Definition
It is a group of skin disorders characterized by dry, scaly or thickened skin.

Causes
Prevention
Choose moisturizer such as petroleum jelly or one that contains urea or propylene glycol-chemicals that help keep the skin moist.
Apply moisturizer while the skin is still moist after bathing.
Avoid strongly scented and antibacterial soaps.

Encourage the patient to bath or shower with lukewarm water and mild soap or non-soap cleansers
Asses the skin systematically, look for areas of irritant and allergic contact
Apply topical lubricants immediately after bathing
