CAUSES
-
Impact on eye development is caused by irregular development of the optic nerve pathways from the eyes to the brain and from the development of the retina.

Each of these genes provides instruction for making one of the several proteins involved in the production of melanin.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Phenotypic Heterogrenity of albinism is due to different gene mutation affecting various points along the melanin pathway.
Additionally associated developmental changes occur in the optic system as a result from this hypopigmentation.
Albinism from defective production of melanin from tyrosine through a complex pathway of metabolic reactions.
