1. Definition
Federalism is a system based upon democratic principles and institution in which the power to govern is shared between national and provincial or state government, creating what is often called a federation
Federalism in Malaysia dates back to the establishment of the Federated Malay States in Peninsular Malaysia, then known as Malaya. Federalism in Malaysia took a more concrete form with the establishment of the Federation of Malaya.As of 2008, although Malaysia is a dejure federation ,many perceive it as ade facto unitary state. Some suggest that oppositiontriumphs in several of the 2008 state elections will alter the political climate and approach towards federalism.
Federalism is a political concept in which a group of members are bound together by government with a governing representative head. The term "federalism" is also used to describe a system of government in which sovereienty is constitutionslly divided between a central governing authority and constituent political units, variously called states, provinces or otherwise.
