what is research writing?
who is my audience and why is that important?
How do i get started on my research paper?
where do i find sources for a research essay?
what makes on research topic better than the other?
"The authors of texts aren’t speaking aloud, of course, but
they’re making written statements that others can “listen”
and “respond” to. Knowing which texts you can trust means
understanding which authors you can trust."(201,Haller)
"Sources of meaning are literally everywhere—for example, your own observations or experiences,
the content of other people’s brains, visuals and graphics,
experiment results, TV and radio broadcasts, and written
texts. And, there are many ways to make new meaning from
sources." (195,Haller)
" When you’re advising your future clients (or in this
case, writing your paper), you’ll need to “listen” to what different people who talk about the healthfulness of bottled and
tap water have to say. Then you’ll be equipped to make your
own recommendation."(203,Haller)
"Learn how to walk
(find the sources you need); talk (converse with source authors); cook (integrate sources to make new meaning); and
eat (allow sources to change your life)."(208,Haller)
"When you start using sources written by experts, you move beyond the huge porch of public discourse, where everyone talks about all questions on a
general level, into some smaller conversational parlors, where
groups of specialists talk about more narrow questions in
greater depth. You generally find more detailed and trustworthy knowledge in these smaller parlors."(202,Haller)
what makes a research topic better than the other is if a topic is more narrowed down or specific to what you want to research about finding sources that are written by experts helps narrow the conversation.
literally anything can be your source as long as it ties in to the overall topic, for examples the most common are books but you can also use websites, databases from libraries, conversations, tv shows, anything can be your source as long as its credible.
To get started on ypur research paper you need to come up with a topic you want to research. you want to find credible sources to back up or for you to argue against, and you need to be able to jump into the conversation or argument by first listening to what others say and then putting in your input.
Research writing is the way to find a topic you want to talk about and find sources you need in order to expand your knowledge of the topic and or to create a new understanding for others.
the audience is very important because the essay is being written for those to understand your point of view of the topic. it can be for the author of a specific source, or to people who aren't familiar with the topic you are researching about.
