Ch. 2, Ls. 4 Cells and Energy
Cellular Respiration
Cellular Respiration - chemical reactions that convert energy from food into usable energy called ATP.
-

-
Fermentation
Fermentation - energy obtained when oxygen levels are low. (Ex: When out of breath). No oxygen used, so less ATP usage.
-
Types of Fermentation
1st Fermentation(lactic-acid fermentation): When glucose is converted into ATP energy and also producing a waste product called lactic acid which helps tolerate milk-based food(cheese, ice cream) - Mucsles use this to make energy
2nd Fermentation(alcohol fermentation): Some yeast/bacteria make ATP energy through alcohol fermentation. This produces a alcohol called ethanol. Some types of dough needs this for it to rise.
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis(for plants) - is the process of light, carbon dioxide, and water converted to food energy glucose that produces oxygen.
Light and Pigments
Photosynthesis needs light energy and chlorophyll absorbs this light energy in the plant. The chlorophyll absorbs every light except green light that is reflected as the plant's color.
