THE PAST CONTINUOUS IS USED FOR ACTIONS THAT OCCURRED IN THE PAST
to form it: the verb to be is used in the past followed by the gerund of the verb; the gerund is formed with the verb in the infinitive followed by -ING for example, I was working in a restaurant
