Ihram

Travelling to Arafat

Muzdalifah and Jamarat

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam that means pilgrimage

A special journey to a special place for a special reason

Every Muslim should try and join a pilgrimage at least once in their life

Before Hajj, Muslims must enter a state called Ihram

Ihram involves ritual washing, praying and putting on Ihram clothing (two sheets of white cloth for men or clothes of a single colour for women)

The cloth worn is a sign of purity and equality

The Ka'aba

The Hajj begins and ends with circling the Ka'aba seven times in an anti-clockwise direction

Everyone then walks along a covered walkway linking the hills of Safa and Marwah

Collect water form the well of Zamzam

Arafat

Arafat is where Muhammed gave his last sermon

They spend an afternoon praying in the hot Sun. The heat of the Sun reminds Muslims what the day of Judgement will be like

They collect 49 pebbles to be used the next day

At Mina, there are three stone walls called the Jamarat that represent the Devil and temptation

They throw the stones they collected at the walls to show they reject the Devil
