Classroom of the future
Theories we resonated with
Behaviourism
B. F. Skinner
Theorized that learning occurs via a series of rewards and punishment
Says that rewards increase likelihood of repeated behaviours and punishments decrease
Rewards and punishment can be positive and negative
Thorndike
Response to a stimulus is reinforced when followed by positive reward effect
Response to a stimulus becomes stranger with exercise and repetition
Behaviourists are interested in measurable changes in behaviour
Used as a tool to manage behaviour in a class
Role practice and repetition are linked to this theory
Cognitivism
3 main theorists
Jean Piaget
Lev Vygotsky
Robert Gagne
Learners must make connections between background knowledge and new knowledge
Learning is done best by active learning where learners can mostly take charge instead of just observe
Constructivism
An approach to learning that allows people to actively construct their own knowledge based on their background knowledge
Transforms learner from passive recipient of knowledge to active participant of knowledge in the learning process
Theory states everyone views world differently depending on previous knowledge and experience and new knowledge should be added gradually
Two main types of constructivism
Cognitive constructivism
Social constructivism
Technology used in classroom
Tech used by teacher
Laptop
Used to show things on laptop or tablet
Easier for learners to follow
Learners can use their tech to do same and follow steps
Tablet
Used when learners have smaller things to do
Tech used by learners
Tablets
A single tablet will be given to each pair of two at a desk for special class work
Answers to questions in class can be loaded onto tablet and results given on big projector
Encourages learning by introducing new and fun ways of learning
Learners become more involved in the lesson
How tech will be placed in the classroom
Classroom set-up will have two learners at a desk
Each desk will have it's own designated tablet and number.
At the end of each school day, the teacher will collect tech and lock up in a special safe
Teacher's laptop and tablet will only be seen by the teacher, unless connected to the projector
