Matter: Anything that has mass and volume - Coggle Diagram
Matter:
Anything that has mass and volume
3 phases of matter
solid: the molecules are closely bound to one another by molecular forces. A solid holds its shape and the volume of a solid is fixed by the shape of the solid.
Gas: the molecular forces are very weak. A gas fills its container, taking both the shape and the volume of the container.
Liquids: the molecular forces are weaker than in a solid. A liquid will take the shape of its container with a free surface in a gravitational field.
Chemical properties/ change :
Chemical property : describe how a substance behaves during a chemical reaction
Chemical change: process in which one or more substances are altered into one or more new and different substances
Physical properties/change
physical properties: is a characteristic of matter that is not associated with a change in its chemical composition.
Physical change: changes the appearance of a substance, not its chemical composition.
Mass: measure of the amount of matter in a substance or an object
Density: measure of mass per volume Formula : d = M/V
Mixtures: the result of combining two or more substances
Homogeneous: a mixture in which the composition is uniform throughout the mixture.
Heterogenous : a mixture in which the composition is not uniform throughout the mixture.
Elements: any substance that cannot be decomposed into simpler substances by ordinary chemical processes
pure substance: contains only one element or compound
compounds: a substance formed when two or more chemical elements are chemically bonded together.
volume: the amount of space occupied by a substance
