ANALYZE THE LEARNERS
:silhouettes:
Analyze the learners is the first step of ASSURE model. Knowing and analyzing the target audience is a very productive step in choosing the most effective methods in the teaching process.
General Characteristics
-Grade Level,
-Age,
-Mental,Emotional,
Physical or Social Problems,
-Socio-Economic Status
Examples
-They like flashcards and group work activitie.
-There are 9 females and 7 males. etc.
Specific Entry Competencies
-Prior knowledge, skills, and attitudes about the topic
Example
Students have already learnt; -Present Simple, -Wh- questions.
Learning Styles
Learning styles can be shaped according to demand.
-Auditory
-Visual
-Kinesthethic
-Tactile
-Interpersonal
STATE OJECTIVES
The second step in planning is to specifically state the objectives for the instructional experience. Objectives are the learning outcomes. Learning outcomes are simply what learners will gain from the course. Objectives typically contain four basic parts:
BEHAVIOR
The behavior is effective in determining the learner's capacity. It is also important to show the parts of which the learner is talented and to move forward. Behaviors can develop in the learning process in an intended or unwanted way.
CONDITIONS
A statement of objectives should include conditions under which the behavior will be observed. In the learning process, taking into account the conditions, the results are important in the development of the process.
DEGREE
With this method, the teacher distinguishes which abilities of the students have been mastered and which should be improved.
ANALYZE
In this section, the teacher asks itself "Who are the learners?" and enables them to participate actively in the learning process.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Learning outcomes are simply what learners will gain from the course.
Example
-Students identify different people’s nationalities when given a listening passage correctly.
UTILIZE MADIA AND MATERIALS
It is important to test and study selected media and materials before use. If the materials and media are OK, preparation should be made on how to use them in the lesson. At the end of all these preparations, it can be used in the course.
Examples
-Preparing flashcards that give students information about nations.
Prepare the Material
All materials to be used are prepared and checked beforehand.
Prepare the Environment
Environments where materials can be used appropriately are created.
Prepare the Leaners
A preliminary explanation is given to learners on how to use the materials.
SELECT MEDIA AND MATERIALS
After analyzing the learner and what he / she should gain in this education, the teacher should analyze what methods and techniques he / she should use in the education process.
Media Selection
A media selection should follow learning outcomes and be chosen objectively. It can be visual, audio, or text.
Examples
-Board
-Computer
-Listening tool
-Flashcards
-Posters
Material Selection
The material section can be change according to learners, and learning aim.
Examples
-Board
-Flashcards
-Posters
Methods Selection
Teachers should choose the best method for their class according to learning schedule, and learning aim.
Examples
-Repetition
-Pair work
-Question and Answer
REQUIRE LEARNER PARTICIPATION
After the previous steps, the active participation of the learners in the lesson is ensured. This can be achieved by asking them questions, creating discussions on the topic.
Questions to ask
Teachers should ask questions to learners about the topic. In this way, learners reflect on the topic, analyze it, and respond.
Activities to do
The participation of learners can be ensured with activities related to the subject. For example, teachers can have learners write texts and have other texts analyzed in order to improve their writing skills.
Skills to Practise
-Listening, -Speaking, -Vocabulary, -Writing, -Grammar
EVALUATE& REVISE
Evaluation and revise is the last and most important step. The result will fail if the necessary measures are not taken to remember and revise what has been learned and to ensure permanent learning.
Evaluate Learners
Teachers should observe students during the activities and test them by asking some questions about the previous lesson.
Evaluate Media and Methods
Teachers can have feedbacks about the used methods.
Evaluate Instructor
An evaluation can be made by the learners about the instructor.

DESCRIPTION OF ASSURE MODEL
ASSURE is an instructional design model that has the goal of producing more effective teaching and learning. “ASSURE” is an acronym that stands for the various steps in the model.
The ASSURE model is an ISD (Instructional Systems Design) process that was modified to be used by teachers in the regular classroom The ISD process is one in which teachers and trainers can use to design and develop the most appropriate learning environment for their students. You can use this process in writing your lesson plans and in improving teaching and learning.
The ASSURE model incorporates Robert Gagne’s events of instruction to assure effective use of media in instruction.
