THE BROADBAND INTERNET CONNECTION, WIRED, WIRELESS - Coggle Diagram
THE BROADBAND INTERNET CONNECTION
Broadband Internet Connection
high speed Internet access that is always on.
Broadband -- wide bandwidth data transmission which
transports multiple signals and traffic types.
Definition
Types of direct connection that is commonly used in home and businesses to share the internet connection with multiple devices within the home or business.
Most internet applications can only be used with a broadband internet connection with a high bandwidth
VOIP telephony
video conferences
transferring large files
streaming videos
online TV
manage pictures on cloud storage
online games
TYPES
WIRED
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
Cable Internet Services
Fiber To The premises (FTTP)
WIRELESS
Cellular Radio Network
Fixed Wireless
Wi-Fi
Satellite Internet Services
Digital Subscriber line (DSL)
High speed internet connection that transmit data by using standard copper telephone line.
Provides digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network.
Advantages
The services is delivered simultaneously with wired telephone service on the same telephone line.
Can operate using a single phone line without preventing normal use of the telephone line for voice phone calls.
Disadvantages
DSL speeds vary depending on your distance from provider's local office.
Has higher latency & lower bandwidth than cable
Latency
=
delay
. It's the amount of delay (or time) it takes to send information from one point to the next)
Cable Internet Services
High speed internet connection that provides internet access via hybrid fiber coaxial cable originally developed to carry television signals.
Direct connection which also known as a cable TV (CATV).
Bandwidth generally shared with neighbors.
Higher speeds & lower latency than DSL in most cases
Provides high speed internet connection to users by using by using cable television network via a cable modem.
Advantages
High connection speed
Convenient - you are always connected to the internet
Does not affect your phone line . Don't need to switch your local service provider.
Disadvantages
Higher price than dial-up and DSL connection
Not available to all cable TV networks.
Usually tie with cable TV subscription.
Fiber To The Premises (FTTP)
High speed internet connection that uses fiber-optic cable to provide extremely high speed internet access to permanent location.
Transmits data at speeds far exceeding current DSL or cable modem speeds, typically by tens or even hundred of Mbps
Data can be transmitted digitally ( the natural form for computer data) rather than analogically.
Disadvantages
cost -- very expensive
Proprietary networks.
Advantages
Incredibly fast download and upload speeds that are fantastic
Greater reliability-no interference during bad weather.
Cellular Radio Network
High speed Internet connection most commonly used by mobile phone and any other mobile devices to keep them connected to the Internet via mobile phone network.
Internet access is delivered through mobile phone towers to computers, mobile phones, and other digital devices using portable modems.
Fixed Wireless
High speed internet connection uses wireless radio signal that needs a dish-shaped antenna to communicate with a radio transmissiontowers.
Allow consumers to access the Internet from a fixed point while stationary and often require a direct line of-sight between the wireless transmitter and receiver.
Typically use Wi-Fi or WiMAX technology to broadcast the wireless signals to customers.
Wi-Fi uses Radio waves to create wireless high-speed internet and network connections. A wireless adapter is needed to create hotspots.
WiMAX uses spectrum to deliver connection to network and handle a larger inter-operable network.
Advantages
People will free accessing the internet without cable.
allow much mobility.
Disadvantages
The cost for subscribers tends to be relatively higher than other forms of broadband.
obstructions from hills or trees prohibit it being installed in some locations.
Wi-Fi Hotspots
High speed internet connection that allow users to access internet in a hotspots location with a direct internet connection and a wireless access point (WAP).
Public Wi-Fi Hotspots are widely available in public area
coffee houses
restaurants
hotels
airports
library
other public establishment
Advantages
A network can be set up without cabling and wiring.
Economical networking solution.
Provides access to the internet in outdoor areas.
Disadvantages
Wireless encryption standard is easy to break.
Wi-Fi network has limited range.
Internet connections speed of wireless network is lower than that of wired network.
Satellite Internet Services
High speed internet connection via satellite to a satellite dish that communicates with a satellite modem.
The most expensive forms of broadband Internet access, but may be the only choice available in remote areas.
Requires a clear line of sight, will not work well through tress and other vegetation, is easily affected by moisture, rain, snow and may require a fairly large, carefully aimed, directional antenna.
Advantages
High speed internet access in rural / remote areas where cable and DSL are not available.
Does not tie up with local phone service or TV subscription.
Disadvantages
More expensive than DSL and cable
Connection speed is lower than DSL and cable.
