For me, the image gives off a strong feeling between the subject and it's surroundings, it looks like the guy was alone yet he's screaming silently while looking on his reflection.

And I think it became an award winning photo because the composition is good which gives balance to its subject and its background and it might looked simple and easy to be captured but the message it conveys speak louder and direct that any audience can perceive by just looking at it

For me people is the obvious choice for creating emotion and feeling in a picture. People naturally convey different moods and emotions by their facial expression, body language, and even their hair style and clothing. All of these things contribute to the story that you’re attempting to tell.
If you don’t love yourself, no one else can really love you. The answer to all your woes is self-love. The love you seek outside of you, is the love you really need to give yourself.
We often beat ourselves up for those failures rather than acknowledging them, releasing them, and working towards change. When we take the time to reflect on our weaknesses, we can remind ourselves of our strengths, which will encourage us to keep up the fight.

Alone is what they have and alone is what makes them who they are in the present but deep down, in their heart, it breaks them to see that at the end of the line, no one was standing behind them.

What I see in this picture is after all the hardships that you've been through, at the end all you have is yourself. There's no one to comfort you or to make you feel better.
The color of the picture really shows the mood of the picture. I have no doubts why this picture is award winning because this photo is great.

The natural light used is wonderful. Just look at the subject. The subject is like glowing. The subject stands out in that dark beautiful place.
The composition is great, it's stunning. the way the photographer took that photo.
