Why is this the usual situation?
- In most cases, lower level managers handle the routine decisions themselves and pass upward to higher level managers only decisions that are unique and different. At the same time, higher level managers pass down routine decisions to employees (or lower level managers) in order to spend their time on more problematic issues.
- In other words, that’s simply how organizational management works in theory.
Decision making: Groups versus Individuals
- In the areas of decision creativity and organizational acceptance, group decision making tends to be better.
- In the area of decision speed, individual decision making usually is better.
