This was caused by Cuban resistance to Spain Rule. America had lots of money invested in Cuba and its sugar cane plantations.
Cuba, Guan, and Puerto Rico came from the victory of American troops.
Open Door Policy
This brought lots of trade and economic opportunity, especially with China
McKinley also wanted to expand business and commerce to other parts of the World with America

Big Stick Ideology
Depended on strong military to achieve America's goals.
Wanted to help other, weaker countries because part of it as that America can help "civilize" them.
Supported the rebellion happening in Panama
Created the Panama Canal
Wanted to create a route from the Caribbean Ocean to the Pacific Ocean that goes through Central America.
Woodrow Wilson

Moral Diplomacy
Wilson wanted the U.S. should spread their freedom and peace instead of trying to colonize and conquer more territories.
Also supported self-governing countries.
Wilson did intervene in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the potential aggression of German or French people in Haiti.
Wanted to be friends (allies even) with Latin America, supporting them using American militairy.

Helped stabilize Latin American economies. This was helped by Taft's effort to make sure that the Open Door Policy was there.
