- - - - The plot of this movie is the journey and escape of three men, previously in a labor prison, one being Ulysses, as they go to find his "treasure" which he buried at his home. Along this journey, they encounter many unexpected events and people. In the end, they return home and find out that there is no treasure, but the bond they have formed stands strong and they continue to be friends.

        Delmer and Pete are converted and forgiven for their sins, while Ulysses shows a more secular view toward religions, refusing to be baptized and dismissing the miracles religion "produces".

  - - - Telemachus is sad and longs for his father, Odysseus, to return. He looks out to the sea, where his father is struggling to come home. This makes him a slave to the sea disc, as the fate of his father and therefore himself relies on his father returning home from sea. Penelope tries to get her son to come back inside as looking out at the sea for days and nights will do no good. It is revealed that Hermes is watching this encounter and reveals an axe with wood behind it perfect for shipbuilding, meaning that Telemachus may go on his own journey to find his father.

        Whether it be Telemachus straying away from his mother and becoming a man, or Telemachus building a ship to search for his father on, or Odysseus' journey home.
    - - Basis it off of one event from the Odyssey, that Telemachus missed his father.
    - - The use of plot, using the entire Odyssey vs a specific part, is a riffing technique which shows the difference between the stories. O Brother Where Art Thou is different from Stone Garden and Ocean's Disc as the plot riffs entirely on the Odyssey while Stone Garden only riffs on one specific event; when Odysseus went to the Underworld. Also different from Ocean's Disc, which similarly only riffs upon one event; Telemachus missing Odysseus.
      - Both the stories, Stone Garden and Ocean's Disc, do not directly change or influence the story. Meeting Medusa and Hermes not killing Telemachus does not influence the stories, but rather give different views and event that could have been left out of the Odyssey by Hoemer. O Brother Where Art Thou changes the characters, the plot, and setting. It is set in a more modern time, compared to the Odyssey, and as events and plot points that changed considerably to fit the new setting.
      - Both Oh Brother Where Art Thou and Ocean's Disc have the theme of journey in them, while Stone Garden is more about Medusa's story and her loneliness.
