      - Just 22% of Australians cited economic problems as their main national issue, this as down 12% points since the GFC in 2006, and suggests that Covid will have increased people's concern with Australia's economy, and so the program must incorporate this cocnern.

      - Print media is divided - Murdoch suppresses environmental research and events, whilst ABC (underfunded/cut funding) brings these to the fore. Environmentalism and responses are increasingly guided by political allegiances and beliefs, and so value based messaging is important.

      - Similar motivation and discursive strategy to UoM - Social, altruism/impact, and career/recognition. Some volunteer positions are 'internships' and the role is of a 'consultant'.
      - Similar event and group-based volunteer recruitment: via established clubs, societies, student unions etc.
      - Flexibility of volunteering positions is more evident and impactful. Students can choose how much to volunteer, in what period etc.
        
        One uni uses 'Yammer', a social networking tool to help you to collaborate on projects, discuss social responsibility and sustainability issues and get to know other Sustainability Champions.

      - WuR, an agriculture department, has started The Circular Farming Platform Wageningen, an interdisciplinary program that aims support the current paradigm shift in agricultural sciences from improvement of productivity towards improvement of circularity. The platform organizes monthly meetings to confront theory with practice, evening meetings to discuss ideas on curriculum development. This project collaborates with the university's composting food waste program.
      - Universities situated within smaller cities, or university towns, like Edinburgh have flourishing sustainability volunteering programs that centre on the larger community. E.g. Helping elderly people - showing them how to use the internet, food, gardening, during Covid19.
      - Many small programs that are hyper relevant and specific to the university and its community - like Warm Sweater Week, Shutting 'Fume Hoods'.

        The Environment Department has three volunteering programs at the moment - Play with your food, Grants, and the Bike Collective.

    - - Biodiversity: Parkville has many established facilities and communications infrastructure for potential volunteering programs. Most of these facilities focus on biodiversity and horticulture/agriculture: Systems garden, Urban forest, Wildiversity, Bees@UniMelb, Community Garden.
      - Waste: Currently owns food waste processors and the Parkville campus operates with labeled bins (recycle and waste only). The SCU has been incredibly successful with their Choose to Reuse program - stopping food packaging waste in Union House and at the Farmers Market. Further, there are smaller, student led food and waste initiatives, like the Fair Food Challenge and the Food Co-op.
      - Transport: Ride2Work/School initiative and the Bike Collective
      - Energy and Waster: Some solar panels and storm water tanks in use
- - - - Aligned with SCU in their desire to take significant action towards sustainability, desire for interdisciplinary and multiple knowledges, and understands the SDGs as key guides.

        They have a key value/goal as “Melbourne as a city that cares for its environment”; and another “Melbourne as a knowledge city”.
      - The University of Melbourne’s Connected Cities Lab and the City of Melbourne currently work together to implement the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is a partnership across disciplinary knowledges, implementing a living laboratory approach within the City of Melbourne.
    - - Has impacted UoM's financial status significantly in 2020 with funding cuts and no Covid19 stimulus. Has also forced a neoliberal 'job-ready' understanding of education, and interprets 'sustainability' as primarily economic, then social, and the environmental.
        Opportunity: Must develop programs for waste management as previous dumping grounds (i.e. China, Malaysia, Indonesia) will no longer accept the rubbish
  - - - An overarching yet indirect actor, the UN and their SDGs have a large influence on global and local understandings of 'sustainability'. The SDGs guide UoM's thinking on the most valuable goals to reach, and on how to monitor, evaluate, iterate, and recognise 'progress'.
  - - - Institutional Certification is important and currently done through the following awards: Green Building Council of Australia; The Green Gown Awards; the Green Impact team; Pangolin Associates
      - Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS): The organisation that developed Green Impact and the Green Gown Awards, two key volunteer program and recognition practices, used by SCU. They build these programs from the SDGs and are in direct affiliation with the SCU.
      - Key institutional bodies that supply water, energy, remove-waste
        
        Water is managed by: City West Water’s Customer Charter. UoM uni is a key stakeholder in the City of Melbourne Elizabeth Street Catchment Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM) Plan
        
        Renewable energy is with Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) (the solar panels)
        
        Waste removal institutions remain unclear, as does the 'resource recovery centre' the waste is channeled into.
    - - Waste going to landfill is a current important but challenging goal for the university, unmet by the 2017-2020 plan.
        
        Waste is embedded in many of the SCU programs, whether in the offices of Green Impact programs/teams, or most overtly and significantly in the Choose to Re-use and Wash-Club programs.
