✅Analyze Learners
✅State Objectives
✅Select Methods, Media and Materials
✅Utilize Media and Materials
✅Require Learner Response
✅Evaluation
✅Teachers should select what materials are needed for the lesson and check the availability of them. They should decide on the method of instruction, choose the media format that is appropriate for the method, and select, modify, update, or design materials for the instruction.
✅It is the first step of the "ASSURE" model. Firstly, teachers should know as much as possible about their learners to design and implement instruction. Learners can be consist of students, new teachers, members of a group, etc.
✅ An objective is a statement of what learners should get out of the lesson. The statement of objectives should be as specific as possible to qualify learners effectively. "For example, "My students will improve their mathematical skills" is far too general to qualify as a specific learner objective." Objectives are often written in 4 (ABCD) formats.
✅ This step is where teachers develop their plan for implementing their media and materials. For each type of media or material, they select and describe in how they are going to implement the media (or material) into their lesson to help learners meet the lesson's objective.
✅ This step is often neglected but it is the most important one. It includes the assessment of instructional methods and media. The evaluation usually has a diagnosis purpose.
✅ Students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning. So, teachers should find ways to keep learners do something.
General Characteristics :
The audience
can be analyzed in terms of their general characteristics (grade level, age, sex, mental, emotional,
physical or social problems, socio-economic status etc.)
Specific Entry Competencies :
They consist of learners' prior
knowledge, skills, and attitudes about the topic.
Learning Styles :
They are styles that help learners comprehend the topic more easily such as; visual, musical, verbal,
logical, etc.
Analyze :
Learning is more effective when learners are active. So, teachers should determine "Who are specific learners that the objectives are intended for?".
Behavior :
It aims to describe learner's capability. It includes demonstration of knowledge or skills in any of the domains of learning, such as; cognitive, psychomotor, affective, or interpersonal. Teachers should know "What specific skills should the learner be able to perform as the end result?".
Condition :
A statement of objectives should include the conditions under which the behavior will be observed. For example, "Are learners allowed to use notes while learning traffic rules violation?".
Degree :
It aims to state the standard for acceptable performance (time, accuracy, proportion, quality, etc). By using this method, teachers can degree which of the learner's skills should be improved.
Learning Outcomes:
❗Learning Outcomes are any measurable skills, abilities, knowledge, or values that the learners gain at the end of the learning process. They aim to focus on applying and integrating knowledge. For example, when teachers want their learners to be able to apply the knowledge, they can design classroom activities and assignments that allow learners to see, hear, and experience the use of knowledge. Learning outcomes are important because; they contribute to the learning management system of an institution. When writing the learning outcomes, teachers need to group them under "KFD" (know, feel, and do). Also, learning objectives should be "SMART": specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-sensitive.
Choosing a Media Format
Choosing a Method :
One of the first things that teachers should do is selecting a method that serves their training goals and objectives. Once they analyze their learners, they can easily select one or more methods in order to meet the changing needs of their audience.
A media format is the physical form in which a message is incorporated and displayed. Media formats include, for example, flip charts, slides, audio (voice and music), video, and computer multimedia. Choosing a media format can be complicated, considering the variety of media and the development of technology. To simplify this task, teachers can use media selection models. These models usually consist of flowcharts and checklists.
Selecting, Modifying, or Designing Specific Materials
To make the learning process more beneficial, selecting materials can help teachers to save time and work. With available materials, learners can understand the topic more easily. When the teachers' materials aren't suitable enough to meet objectives, they should modify them. If these approaches aren't useful to teachers, they can design their own materials.
✅ASSURE:
Prepare the environment
Prepare the learners
Preview and Prepare the material
Teachers should preview the materials before using them in a class, and they should also use the equipment in advance to be sure it works. If teachers use electronic equipment, they should always have alternative plans in case they face a problem.
Teachers should arrange facilities for the proper use of media and materials. For example, some media require a darkened room and teachers should provide it for their learners. Also, they have to check facilities, so that all of the students can easily see or hear properly.
What is learned from an activity, depends on how learners are prepared for the lesson. Teachers should describe how they will give the students an overview, explain how they can take this information and use it, and how they will be evaluated up front.
Questions to Ask
Provide Learning Experience
During the introductory phases of this lesson, the teachers use materials like the overhead projector, a data projector, a computer, etc. They should be able to direct attention in the classroom.
Teachers should ask questions to learners about the topic. To not forget, they should write down all the major questions they will ask to learners. In this way, learners can learn better.
Activities To Do
Teachers should select activities related to the topic and describe these activities step by step to learners. For example, a listening lesson has: warm-up; lead-in; pre-listening; while-listening; post-listening; follow-up stages.
Skills to practice
Teachers should make their learners practice language areas that they will be engaged; reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar
Evaluate Media and Methods
Evaluate Instructor Performance
Evaluate Learners
Teachers should examine their learners whether they can understand the topic properly. They can test them by asking questions
Teachers should ask themselves "Were my instructional materials effective?" and detect and correct learning/teaching problems.
The instructor should be evaluated along with other components. It should be done to help teacher improve himself/herself.
✅The ASSURE Model is a guide for planning and conducting instruction that uses media. It enables more effective teaching/learning. It focuses on giving each learner the specific technology they require to achieve their personal goals and objectives. The ASSURE plan has six steps.
