Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction
Asexual Reproduction
Fast and easy, but no genetic variation.
Produces offspring that are identical to parent
.
Involves one parent.
Examples:
Bacterias.
Some plants.
Few animals.
Types of asexual Reproduction
Budding: Small growth on surface of parent breaks off and results in two individuals.
Fragmentation: Organism breaks in two or more fragments that develop into a new individual.
Binary fissions: Single parent cell doubles its DNA, then divides in two. (bacterias)
Parthenogenesis: An embryo develops from an unfertilized cell.
Sexual Reproduction
Sperm fertilizes egg.
Provides genetic variation but time-consuming.
Offspring are different from parents.
Examples:
Humans.
Animals ( mammals, fish, reptiles, etc).
.
Some plants.
Involves two parents.
